A Quick Fix to a Stressed Mind
You are at a family dinner, worried about your deadline, not sure why you are having this constant pain in your ribs and to top things up your uncle just asked you when is it exactly that you are planning on having kids.
Your head is full, you must calm down. Quickly. My suggestion:
The Humming Bee Breath.
Inhale through your nose, exhale through your nose while making a sound of a humming bee. This is as simple as that.
If you want to take your Bhramari Pranayama (Humming Bee breath) further, do the above while: Closing your eyes, placing your thumbs on your ears, your index and middle fingers on your eyes, ring fingers besides your nostrils and little fingers besides your mouth.
You are likely to be taken as a lunatic if you do it on the dinner table. Why not find a quiet room? (the bathroom will do just fine).
I promise you will feel a relief after just a few breaths, but if you enjoy it, why not continue for a few more minutes?
You don't have to experience all the above to practice the humming bee (Bhramari) pranayama. It really helps calming down the nervous system and tuning in. Enjoy this breath at the beginning of your yoga practice, sitting in Sukhasana (cross legged) or even throughout your Asana practice in long restorative poses such as Viparita Karani.
